Maplewood Golf and Country Club opened to the public in 1983 but our story starts much earlier than that! In 1927, newweds, Jens and Dagney Rasmussen emigrated from Denmark. They landed at Pier 21 in Halifax with a total of $50 and no knowledge of the English language. They made their way to the Moncton area and one of Jens' first jobs was helping to build the original 9 holes at Lakeside Golf Club on the Shediac Road. When that project was completed they purchased property in Irishtown and farmed as they had in Denmark. Jens hope was to someday build a golf course on his property but he died without accomplishing this in 1961.
In the early '80's Jens' grandsons Dale, Ken and Steve with the help of their parents, Harry and Etta, started the construction of the first 9 holes on the Irishtown property. Working weekends, holidays and vacations, they were ready to open in 1983. Work continued on the course to greens and fairways until the early '90's when construction began on the second 9 holes. With an adjustment to some of the original holes, the complete 18 was opened in 1995.
In 2000, a large addition to the clubhouse was added offering a larger kitchen, proshop and banquet space. The irrigation system was completed with the ability to water tee through green. Recent changes to the course include a completely new 16th hole and a new green and tees on the 12th hole.
We are proud to have 3 generations of Rasmussens currently working here. We strive to make Maplewood the best golfing experience possible for both our members and green fee players.
